“NEWS and INFORMATION FROM and FOR THE DOLORES STREET SCHOOL COMMUNITY!”  

ESY SUMMER SCHOOL - Our school is being used for the ESY program - Extended School Year for Special Education students. Those that are attending this program are from a variety of neighboring schools. The students being served, including a Pre-School mix, are Moderate/Severe, Mild Moderate, Moderate to Severe Mental Retardation, and some with Autism. The ESY program began July 7 and will end August 3.  The program is based at the Caroldale Learning Community.


LAUSD EFFECTIVE PRACTICES INSTITUTE - SUMMER 2010 - You are invited to attend summer professional development courses that will address the cultural and linguistic needs of all students to include English Learners, Standard English Learners, Gifted And Talented, and Students With Disabilities. The Institute will be held Downtown Business Magnet High School:

Courses are limited to twenty-five participants. If a course is full, participants will be wait-listed. It is advisable that if wait-listed, participants register for another course and/or different date to confirm a spot in a course. No walk-ins will be accepted. Upon completion of all four days of the professional development the participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and a stipend of $408.

PETERSEN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM - Meet our staff and volunteers as the Petersen presents its varied educational programs to Southern California teachers. The Museum has three floors of exhibit content applicable to California State Content Standards for K-12 for History-Social Science, Visual Arts, Science, and Industrial and Technology Education. The Petersen's excellent docent corps will lead you through the galleries and discuss different tour options and classroom tie-ins.

Participants will have the opportunity to receive a free school tour, sign up for our Free Teacher Admission Card, and learn about the Robert E. Petersen Free School Bus Program. Public, private, and home school K-12 teachers are all welcome. A light lunch is provided and parking is free.

RELAY FOR LIFE - The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Carson will take place on the track at Carson High School on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1.  There are 31 teams signed up to participate, including one representing Dolores Street.  Our school’s tent will be located on the east side.  Even if you can't stay overnight, drop by for a little while.
